Leeds Museums and Galleries, Leeds Art
Gallery has been shortlisted for the fourth time, this time with
artist Becky Beasley, for one of the highest value contemporary art
prizes in the country, the Contemporary Art Society Annual Award for
Museums which supports a UK-based museum or public gallery to work
with an artist of their choice to commission a new work that, once
completed, will remain within the museum’s permanent collection.
The other nominees this year are the
Harris Museum & Art Gallery with artist Nathaniel Mellors;
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art with Marvin Gaye Chetwynd;
and the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester with Martin Boyce. The
award, worth £40 000, with a potential for major impact on both the
winning museum and their chosen artist will be announced on 24th
November at an event at The Barbican, London.
